Exploring the Roots

Our Core Virtues

The Roots of the Sacred Tree are our core virtues—the values that ground our life together and shape how we relate to ourselves, our communities, and the divine. These virtues are not abstract ideals, but practices we return to again and again as we grow, learn, and live in relationship.

Honor

Honor is the practice of living in alignment with one’s values and fulfilling one’s duties with integrity. It calls us to keep our word, take responsibility for our actions, and remain accountable for how our choices affect others. Honor is not about status or reputation, but about meeting responsibility with consistency, even when it is difficult or unseen.

Hospitality

Hospitality is not only how we welcome others, but how we show up when we are welcomed. It is a reciprocal relationship—honoring the spaces we enter, meeting generosity with gratitude, and recognizing that welcome is a gift, not an entitlement.

Sovereignty

Sovereignty affirms personal agency and self-determination while recognizing that freedom carries responsibility. To be sovereign is to make choices consciously, accept their consequences, and respect the autonomy of others. Sovereignty reminds us that community is strongest when individuals act with intention rather than coercion.

These virtues echo values found in many ancient and modern Pagan ethical traditions, emphasizing integrity, reciprocity, responsibility, and care for one another. While expressed differently across cultures and communities, they reflect shared understandings of how people live well together—grounding our practice in relationship, accountability, and mutual respect.
